Thank you for reaching out to WBCR.
WBCR is a small, volunteer-run rescue with a limited number of foster homes. We get dozens of owner surrender requests every month, in addition to pleas from overcrowded shelters with Border Collies in need. We prioritize saving Border Collies in imminent danger of euthanasia and work to save as many lives as possible, but are unfortunately unable to help with every request we receive. We also only consider owner requests for Border Collies located in the area within we work (WY, CO and immediately surrounding states). If you do not receive an email response from us within a week, we are unable to help with rehoming your dog.
That said, we want to help every person who reaches out to us in some way. Here are some options we recommend you explore:
1. Sometimes the best option may be to keep your dograther than rehoming. Many owner surrender requests could really benefit from working with a behavior professional. We would be happy to point you toward a behavior professional whose methodologies are sound. If you’d like help finding a behavior professional, email us at wbcr@wbcrescue.org, using subject line PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR HELP and include your location and what sort of help you seek in the body of the message.
2. Responsible breeders should take their dogs back; if your pup came from a breeder, contact them first. If you got your dog from another rescue, please reach out to that rescue for help.
3. Reach out to other herding or breed specific rescues. Some offer courtesy listings or may have space for your dog. Google Border Collie Rescues, Herding Breed Rescues, or All Breed Rescues in your area.
4. You can rehome your pet yourself and save your Border Collie the stress of life in an animal shelter. You can find more info here:
